We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile, cutting-edge marine electrical projects in a fast-growing, internationally recognized company.
Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of electrical systems for maritime applications. This role involves leading multidisciplinary engineering projects, overseeing system installations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing technical leadership to junior engineers. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and external partners to deliver solutions that meet the highest quality and performance standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review vendor-furnished information and make necessary documentation for the vessel design.
- Validate that the design requirements documentation accurately captures the electrical systems requirements.
- Support design review meetings both internally and externally.
- Possess good knowledge related to Marine Electrical System such as Power Distribution, Propulsion, Ship Automation, Navigation and Communication.
- Good understanding class society rules and regulations.
- Capable to develop plan related to Set to Work and Commissioning of electrical systems.
- Report progress and non-conformance in Synergi and to project organization, including feedback for documentation alignment and subsequently As Built.
- Active participation, including hands on experience related to STW and commissioning of electrical systems onboard the vessel.
- Capable to work in multidisciplinary domain to coordinate between various stakeholders during STW, HAT and SAT.
- Experience in performing HAT and SAT for customers, class, and other stakeholders.
- Attend FATs when applicable for specific projects.
- Perform service, modification, and warranty assignments related to marine electrical systems.
- Ability and willingness to work at clients locations for extended period of time
- Significant travel activity must be expected.
Authority
- To refuse to take an assignment/perform a task if it is not aligned with Vard Electros' established procedures and safety requirements.
- Full authority for commissioning decisions, including performance or modification of procedures within the constraints of the project and specification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science, or equivalent. The incumbent is expected to possess a high degree of originality, skill, and proficiency in the various broad phases of engineering applications in the marine industry.
- Professional Engineer designation or equivalent, or capable to obtain a Professional Engineering Certificate.
- Substantial knowledge of Marine Electrical Systems, Power Generation, Power Distribution, Ship Automation, Electronics Systems, Navigation and Communications.
- Good hands-on knowledge of power systems Analysis, EMI/EMC, grounding, electrical systems arrangement, power generation, and distribution.
- Will hold a minimum qualification of a recognized bachelor’s degree or equivalent engineering degree in a related field.
- Will have a minimum of five years post-graduation experience in the marine industry.
- Engineering experience in a shipyard engineering office is preferred
- Experience in estimating vessel repairs and conversions
- Have advanced knowledge of marine engineering and systems
- Proficient with Classification Society Rules and Flag State Regulations.
- General understanding of other disciplines- Naval Architecture, Vessel Structures, Outfitting and Electrical is highly preferred
- Experience with government-industry designs
- Proficient in AutoCAD and other applicable software’s
- Advanced writing skills.
- Proficient in English (read, write, and oral)
- Flexibility to travel worldwide and work in multiple locations
- Willingness to work flexible hours and work outside normal working hours to accommodate time differences
- Meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian Government security clearance
