Position Overview
The Project Planner at FMI plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects by assisting the Site Leadership & Project Management teams in planning, budgeting, execution, and documentation.
The Project Planner will work under the direction of the Site Superintendent & Project Manager. Responsibilities span procurement, scheduling, cost control, documentation, subcontractor coordination, client communications, and change management—all with a focus on delivering projects safely, on time, on budget, and within scope.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate procurement activities including materials and subcontractor services using appropriate contract documents
- Develop and Monitor project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of materials and readiness of subcontractors.
- Maintain compliance documentation and manage project records effectively
- Plan and Support cost tracking of labour, materials, and equipment, and escalate cost overruns or risks proactively.
- Review & understand Specs & QA requirements
- Act as a liaison between FMI, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams
- Represent FMI professionally in all meetings and communications
- Work closely with Site Supervisors to ensure subcontractors are prepared, accountable, and performing work according to safety, cost, quality, and schedule expectations
- Track and manage changes to scope, schedule, and budget using formal change management processes
- Review Drawings & prepare Construction Packages
- Ensure the latest drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings are properly filed and used on site
- Ensure detailed and up-to-date project documentation including RFIs, Submittals, Site Instructions, and Field Memos
- Prepare and distribute accurate meeting minutes and project status reports for both FMI leadership and clients
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in project management, operations, mechanical engineering or equivalent field;
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years Engineering & Heavy Industrial
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, 3D modeling, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).
- Familiarity with project management and cost control software (e.g., Vista, Procore)
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach.
- Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Valid Driver’s License & Clean Abstract
