What you'll do
Equipment Testing and Commissioning (ETC) has an opportunity for a Project Manager 1 to join the team based at BC
Hydro’s Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC. This role is centered on commissioning planning and coordination for major
electrical and station service equipment across high complexity and high-risk capital projects in transmission and generation
stations. The position supports project delivery by developing commissioning scope, resource strategies, and execution
readiness plans, while providing technical guidance and coordination through project planning, outage development, and
execution phases.
The key accountabilities for this position are:
- Lead commissioning planning activities of major electrical equipment and station service equipment for high complexity
and high-risk projects, including defining scope, staging testing and oiling activities, and coordinating resources, logistics,
and vendor requirements
- Execute commissioning resource planning strategies by working with project teams, design engineers, commissioning
coordinators, and field teams to clarify equipment requirements and expected outcomes
- Plan and coordinate commissioning activities including testing programs and requirements specifically for reactive,
switchgear and station service equipment, including oiling and vendor-supported field work
- Complete constructability reviews and assess site readiness, logistics, and execution risks for equipment commissioning
scope
- Interpret and apply engineering and commissioning standards to support planning, execution readiness, and risk
mitigation strategies
- Act as a subject matter expert on commissioning planning and execution requirements for major electrical and station
service equipment by providing guidance during project planning, outage development, and execution phases
- Represent ETC requirements in project meetings and support integration of ETC’s commissioning scope into project
plans, schedules, and execution strategies
- Build and maintain working relationships with project stakeholders, including engineering, construction, scheduling, and
field teams, to support alignment and delivery
- Develop work package estimates and agreements aligned with ETC scope, including defining assumptions, exclusions,
and requirements
- Support Work Package Managers by providing input to scope development, cost tracking, forecasting, and variance
analysis
- Support financial monitoring activities related to ETC scope and contribute input to financial reporting
- Coordinate planning and procurement of insulating oil and specialized materials by working with vendors, Contracts, and
Category Management
- Collaborate with others to plan and execute field logistics, contract deliverables, and material delivery requirements
- Act as liaison between project teams, scheduling, and execution groups to align timelines, sequencing, and site readiness
requirements
- Coordinate field logistics and support mobilization planning for commissioning activities
- Gather and validate technical information required to support ETC’s commissioning scope and execution
- Support progress tracking of ETC work packages and support timely completion by identifying constraints and
coordinating resolution
- Identify the need for Change Notices and support their development and progression from initiation through completion
