Cost Controller - Construction Industry

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Employment Type: Full-Time

A leading construction and infrastructure organization is seeking an experienced Cost Controller to support complex construction projects in the Edmonton area. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong project controls experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project management, finance, and operations teams.

The successful candidate will play a key role in budget development, cost forecasting, earned value analysis, risk management, and monthly project reporting across large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and revised cost projections throughout the project lifecycle
Monitor project performance through detailed cost analysis, earned value reporting, and variance tracking
Work closely with project managers and budget owners to identify risks, cost overruns, and opportunities for savings
Lead monthly cost control reviews and provide recommendations to support project decision-making
Support the preparation of executive-level project reporting and financial updates
Assist with risk and opportunity tracking, mitigation planning, and project controls processes
Collaborate with finance, commercial, and project teams to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting
Support claims, change management, and extension of time activities by providing cost analysis and forecast data
Participate in project meetings and contribute to ongoing process improvements and cost management initiatives

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of cost control or project controls experience within construction, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects
Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, and construction operations
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with project controls or ERP systems such as JDE, SAP, Procore, or similar platforms
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage competing priorities
Basic engineering or technical construction knowledge considered an asset
Additional Requirements
Ability to visit active construction sites and navigate various site conditions and weather environments
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively across project teams and stakeholders
