About Us:
Founded in 1994, Blue Falls Manufacturing (BFM) is the proud producer of Arctic Spas® Hot Tubs and All Weather Pools. We are proud to be Canada’s largest hot tub dealer, providing the best product and service in the industry. BFM thrives on inspiration, innovative engineering, and employee dedication and experience. Our team is customer focused, delivering the highest level of service and product quality possible.
Summary
Arctic Spas / Blue Falls Manufacturing is building an internal AI and automation capability that connects our CRM, point-of-sale, e-commerce, and business intelligence systems across four brands, 200+ dealers, and approximately 14 corporate stores. This work currently runs as a one-person department, and we are adding a Junior Developer to scale delivery.
This is a hands-on, build-focused role for an early-career developer who wants to work across the full stack of modern business automation: APIs, data pipelines, AI/LLM integrations, and internal tools. You will work directly alongside the Head of Business Analytics & AI Strategy, with broad exposure to production systems from day one and a clear path to grow into a full-stack automation engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Build & integrate — Develop and maintain integrations between Zoho CRM, Lightspeed Retail, Supabase, and internal web apps using REST APIs, SQL, and scripting.
- Automate workflows — Construct and maintain automation pipelines (n8n, Zoho Deluge) that move data between systems and eliminate manual operations work.
- Support AI features — Help build and test LLM-powered tools and RAG pipelines, including prompt design, data preparation, and output validation.
- Develop internal tools — Contribute to dealer- and staff-facing web applications (React/Vite/Supabase/Netlify stack).
- Work with data — Write queries, build reports, run data-acquisition and bulk-data operations (scraping, prospecting, cleanup), and surface data-quality issues across CRM and POS datasets.
- Tend edge systems — Help deploy and maintain automation services running on edge devices (Raspberry Pi) over a Tailscale network — monitoring, log review, and routine upkeep.
- Document & hand off — Produce clear technical documentation so systems are maintainable and not dependent on a single person.
Required Skills
Strong fundamentals matter more than breadth. We expect a junior developer to be solid on the basics below and genuinely curious about our stack — not to arrive knowing every tool. We value the instinct to debug the actual API call rather than blindly trusting a framework.
Domain Skills
- Programming - Python and JavaScript/Node.js (solid fundamentals), with hands-on REST API consumption and debugging
- Data - SQL (joins, aggregation, basic optimization); comfortable reading relational schemas and working with JSON
- AI / Automation - Working understanding of LLM APIs and prompt design; eager to learn RAG and agentic workflows
- Web - HTML/CSS and at least one modern framework (React preferred); Git version control
- Systems / CLI - Comfortable on the Linux command line — SSH into a server, read logs, restart a service
- Soft Skills - Systems thinking, clear technical communication, and the ability to pick up a half-built, lightly-documented system and run with it
Nice-to-Have / Will Train On
These are the specific tools in our environment. Real exposure to any is a strong plus, but all are learnable on the job for a capable junior developer.
Domain Skills
- Zoho Ecosystem - Zoho Deluge scripting, Zoho CRM, Zoho Analytics (our primary BI), Zoho One platform
- Automation Tooling - n8n, Zapier, LangChain/LangGraph, MCP (Model Context Protocol) coordination
- Data Acquisition - Web scraping / data extraction (e.g. Apify), document/OCR pipelines, large-scale data hygiene
- Schema / GEO - JSON-LD / structured-data schema markup for search and AI-engine optimization
- E-commerce - Lightspeed Retail API, Ecwid (Shopify transferable), Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
- Data / BI - PostgreSQL/Supabase; Power BI a plus
- AI Infrastructure Local - LLM inference (Ollama), edge deployment (Raspberry Pi), Tailscale mesh networking
- Field Service - Scheduling and dispatch workflows; service/work-order systems
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field or demonstrable equivalent project/portfolio experience.
- 0–2 years of professional or significant project experience (co-op, internship, freelance, or substantial personal builds all count).
- A portfolio, GitHub, or set of projects we can review — we weight what you have built over where you learned it.
- Eligible to work in Canada and able to work on-site in or near the Thorsby/Edmonton area.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Days 1–30 — Onboard to the stack; ship small, well-scoped fixes and integrations under guidance.
- Days 31–60 — Independently own a recurring automation or reporting task end-to-end.
- Days 61–90 — Deliver a complete feature or pipeline (e.g., a new integration or internal tool) with documentation.
Why This Role
- Direct mentorship from a senior strategist building production AI systems.
- Unusually broad exposure to real systems — CRM, POS, BI, e-commerce, and AI — for an early-career role.
- Tangible impact: your work ships to dealers, corporate stores, and leadership, not into a backlog.
- Room to grow into a full-stack automation / AI engineering role as the function scales.
