Southwestern Public Health is hiring a collaborative, creative, and well-organized student to support the Communications and Human Resources teams with internal communication and content activities.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the successful candidate will support the Communications and Human Resources departments concurrently to primarily support plan execution for internally-focused communications with engaging, highly creative content designed to resonate with Southwestern Public Health staff, community partners, and other professional audiences.
The Communications Student will also work to support organizational leadership and program teams to bring the work of public health to life and ensure it is accessible to the diverse audiences we serve in Oxford County, Elgin County, and the City of St. Thomas.
Essential Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma program in communications, marketing, human resources, or related field
- Confidence operating in a Microsoft 365 environment (Office, Teams, Outlook, Copilot)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation
- Photography and video skills to support multimedia projects
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is an asset
- Experience with AODA compliance (WCAG Level 2.0 Level AA) is an asset
- Demonstrates professional acumen
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable access to an insured working vehicle.
- A criminal reference check completed within the last six months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), inclusive of a Judicial Matters Check, will be required
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting staff engagement and organizational strategies aligned with the Southwestern Public Health 2025-2029 Strategic Plan
- Communicating policy and Human Resources update through internal communication channels
- Drafting and posting announcements, resources, and other content to internal communication channels
- Supporting communication campaigns that emphasize the people and culture at Southwestern Public Health to internal and, at times, external audiences
- Supporting AODA compliance efforts for written materials, including PDFs that are published on the Southwestern Public Health external website
- Drafting and posting social media content for various professionally-focused channels, such as LinkedIn
- Monitoring and reporting on key indicators for Human Resources and Communications activities
- Supporting the review and updating of internal recruitment processes
- Developing various content elements in written, photo, and video formats
- Other communication and human resources projects and duties as assigned
Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Employment Agreement.
Salary: $25.00/hr (70 hours in a two-week period).
Will receive vacation pay each pay period.
A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of Judicial Matters Check, will be required of the successful candidate.
Immunization Requirements: Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
