Job Overview
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician is responsible for testing raw materials work in process and finished products to ensure high standards of quality are met. This role is an integral part of the manufacturing team and is the critical step in ensuring that company objectives of producing high quality products are met through testing products across stages of production.
Hours of Work:
Rotating 8 hour shift every 2 weeks from Monday to Friday (Days, Afternoon, Nights) with weekends off. Note that Night shift rotation is typically scheduled as 4, 10 hour shifts per workweek for the Quality Department.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for regular GMP audits and inspections on equipment, quality documentation and on- hand/incoming product
- Collects and tests samples from various production runs to meet factory test methods
- Works with QA Manager and Plant Manager to plan workload and define process audits, to ensure quality and delivery time of complete products
- Performs audits and inspections on raw material, product in process, finished goods and/or customer returns
- Initiates preventative corrective actions based on audit findings including effectively and efficiently isolating and documenting any non-conforming issues related to raw materials, product in process, finished goods and/or customer returns
- Maintain and manages ERP platform (Microsoft Dynamics 365) to record testing results, complete quality control data entry and product quality files
- Performs quality tests using a variety of lab equipment such as IR spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, tensile test, coefficient of friction etc.
- Performs training to production staff and applicable departments to meet quality requirements
- Generates various reports such as Certificate of Analysis, Certificate of Compliance, Technical Data Sheets, MSDS, Non-Conformance report etc.
- Works as a cross functional team collaboratively organization wide to identify was to improve processes, identify preventative actions that lead to cost savings and continuous improvement efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-Secondary degree and/or diploma in Chemical, Biochemical and/or Biotech Engineering is preferred, or a combination of a scientific background, quality management training and experience will be considered.
- 3+ years’ experience of quality inspection and testing in a manufacturing environment is required
- 3+ years’ experience conducting quality audits and generating reports and findings associated with quality testing is a must
- Working knowledge of GMP and HACCP is a must
- Previous experience with lab equipment is required, experience with spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, tensile, coefficient of friction is a definite asset
- Strong working knowledge of various mathematical concepts including fractions, ratios and proportions is an asset
- Demonstrated experience with identifying improvement processes
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work within tight deadlines is required
- Previous experience with facilitating training and speaking to all levels in an organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must
- Advanced computer skill is a must, previous experience with Microsoft Dynamic 365 is an asset.
- Flexibility to work rotational shift and occasional weekends
- Lifting of up to 50lbs is required.
