Position: CNC – Custom Machinist – Heavy Machining
Pay Range: $35 - $40 per hour (based on skill)
Number of Openings: 2
Shifts: Up to 60hours/week(*based on skill/business requirements*)
Day shift: (overtime available) 7:00am - 3:30pm (M-F, 8 hour shift)
Night shift: (overtime available + premium) 5:00pm - 5:30am (M-Th, 12 hour shift)
Potential to earn $120,000+ per year with OT

Position Overview:
- The CNC Machinist is responsible for the setup, operation, and in-process inspection of large, heavy, and complex components in a custom manufacturing environment. This role requires strong expertise in turning operations, workholding strategies, and maintaining precision on large-diameter parts. May work in both Burlington and Mississauga locations
Key Responsibilities:
- Review job packages including drawings, work orders, and specifications prior to machining
- Set up and operate CNC for medium to large components (typically 5,000–100,000+ lbs) and 30” to 200” + in diameter.
- Operate and work from elevated operator platforms/cabin as required.
- Machine components per specified requirements as defined on DWG’s, Job Travellers and sketches.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and process sheets to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Pre-inspection of parts to ensure product compliance is achievable prior to metal removal process.
- Modify and edit programs as required including adjusting offsets, cutting parameters and verifying tooling requirements are met in advance of commencement of each job to maintain dimensional accuracy throughout the process. Escalate any issues / concerns to supervisor.
- Machining of parts including facing, tuning (OD/ID), grooving, threading, milling and boring.
- Verify and record critical dimensions as required by inspection plans and DWG’S using precision measuring instruments
- Use of overhead crane to set up and move components. Coordinate closely with rigging teams for complex multi-step setups for parts heavier than 25 Tons.
- Ensure all work meets customer, ISO, and internal quality requirements.
- Identify and report non-conformances (NCRs) and support root cause analysis.
- Maintain full traceability of parts (Job #, WO #, material identification)
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, tooling life, and setup efficiency.
- Support lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives as required.
- Practice excellent general housekeeping, including but not limited to, work area, chip removal, floor areas, benches, storage areas to ensure a safe work environment.
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations, including proper PPE and safe rigging/lifting.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements (CCOHS/WHMIS).
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8-10 years CNC setup and machining experience with large parts 30” in Diam.
- Experience machining large weldments and assemblies to tight tolerances.
- Experience with custom, low-volume, high-mix production.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading a must.
- Previous experience with large machine tools (Toshiba TSS, Shiesse, Berthiez)
- proficient with Fanuc & Siemens controls.
- Challenged daily in working with large complex& fabricated components, where material variation and conditions require an analytical approach to machining of product.
- Proved experience working with overhead cranes an asset.
- Comfortable working at heights (may require Working at Heights Training).
- General machinist certification as asset.
- Motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure.
- Willing to work overtime and be on call for after hours work.
- Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to organize own work effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
Experience/ License/Certification:
- General machinist certification(preferred)
- GD&T knowledge(preferred)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail(preferred)
