Full job description

Position Overview *Maternity Leave

This temporary position provides maternity leave coverage to support ongoing research initiatives led by African Lion Safari. The role focuses on maintaining continuity of animal health and welfare research involving infrared thermography (IRT), research data management, collaborator communication, and related administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Research Department, animal care staff, veterinarians, and external research collaborators to ensure data collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting continue without interruption.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Data Management

Support existing animal health and welfare research projects.
Upload, organize, synchronize, and manage thermal image datasets from all IRT cameras.
Sync thermal images from the FLIR Ignite platform into Thermal Studio Pro.
Sort and analyze thermal images using Thermal Studio Pro following established protocols.
Create, maintain, and update Excel datasets containing thermal image metadata and analysis outputs.
Access and manage Tracks files and supporting documentation.
Assist with implementing established experimental designs and adapting protocols as needed.
Contribute to the preparation of research presentations and draft manuscripts.
Communicate with internal and external collaborators via email, video calls, and meetings to support project implementation, equipment maintenance and use, data transfer and analysis, and project updates.

Ongoing Research Support

Provide hands on support for active research studies using infrared thermography requiring continued data processing and oversight during the leave period.
Respond to requests for thermal image analysis or data organization from veterinary and animal care teams.
Support coordination of externally partnered research by managing incoming datasets and documentation.
Ensure datasets, approvals, and records remain organized, current, and accessible for long term research and reporting needs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Familiarity with infrared thermography and image analysis software.
Background in animal health, animal physiology, nutrition, or a related life science field.
Experience with research data handling, spreadsheet management, and documentation.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple ongoing research tasks simultaneously.
Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
