A.J. Martin & Sons is a family-owned site services and construction company serving the GTA, specializing in excavation, grading, site servicing, demolition, and related civil construction for residential, commercial, and industrial clients.
Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Heavy Equipment Operator to lead by example on our job sites. The successful candidate will be an experienced operator who can handle complex excavation and grading tasks, support junior operators and labourers, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and professional work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate:
- Excavators (various sizes)
- Dozers (various sizes)
- Loaders, Rock Trucks, skid steers, and other site equipment
- Perform complex excavation, trenching, backfilling, and rough/fine grading to tight tolerances.
- Work on residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including:
- Site preparation and earthworks
- Site servicing support
- Conduct thorough daily equipment inspections and promptly report issues.
- Assist with layout and grades as directed by the Foreman or Site Supervisor.
- Support and mentor less experienced operators and labourers.
- Coordinate with truck drivers and ground crews to meet project schedules.
- Strictly follow OHSA, MOL regulations, and company health & safety policies.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction or site services.
- High proficiency with excavators and Dozer at least one other key machine (loader, skid steer, etc.).
- Ability to read grades, follow site plans, and work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with land stripping, excavation, and overburden removal is considered an asset
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation to sites across the GTA.
- Relevant operator tickets/certifications; current safety training (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights) is an asset.
- Strong communication skills, reliability, and a team-first attitude.
- Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
