THE OPPORTUNITY
Rocky Ridge Retirement Community, located in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an energetic, creative, and resident-focused Lifestyle Manager to lead recreation, leisure, and therapeutic recreation programming within our retirement residence.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this role develops and delivers programs that support residents’ social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being across 105 Independent Living and 29 Designated Supportive Living (SL4D) suites, promoting meaningful resident engagement.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
- Plan, promote, organize, lead, and evaluate resident-centered recreation, leisure, and therapeutic recreation programs, including group, one-on-one, self-directed, outing, and special event activities.
- Assess residents’ recreation and leisure needs using information from residents, families, staff, care documentation, and/or standardized recreation assessments where applicable.
- Develop individualized programming approaches and therapeutic recreation interventions based on residents’ needs, abilities, interests, and goals.
- Develop and maintain monthly activity calendars and support residence newsletters, special events, open houses, and resident/family engagement opportunities.
- Encourage resident participation and create a fun, friendly, inclusive, and caring atmosphere.
- Document resident assessments, participation, engagement, progress, and follow-up needs as required.
- Participate in resident care conferences and interdisciplinary discussions where required.
- Educate residents, families, and team members on the benefits of recreation and strategies to support meaningful participation.
- Coordinate volunteers and resident-led programs, including orientation, support, and recognition.
- Supervise, orient, and support Lifestyle team members.
- Manage department supplies, petty cash, budgets, goals, and action plans in accordance with organizational expectations.
- Ensure programs are delivered safely and are available seven days a week, including during outbreak, where applicable.
- Maintain positive relationships with residents, families, team members, volunteers, and community partners.
- Participate in health and safety, fire safety, quality improvement, and emergency response activities.
- Drive the residence bus for outings, where required.
- Act as weekend Manager on Duty on a rotational basis, where applicable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including some evenings and weekends.
- The successful candidate must be able to lead exercise or activity programs, push wheelchairs, move light furniture and equipment, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as required.
WHO YOU ARE
- Post-secondary education in recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, recreation administration, gerontology, or a related field is required.
- Therapeutic recreation education, registration with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association, or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist designation is required.
- Approximately 2–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in seniors’ care, retirement living, supportive living, or long-term care.
- Experience planning and leading programs for older adults, including individuals with physical disabilities or cognitive impairment.
- Fitness or exercise training appropriate for seniors is preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- Valid First Aid and CPR.
- Class 4 driver’s licence, or willingness/ability to obtain where required.
- Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire.
- Must be able to provide results of TB (tuberculosis) testing (2-step skin test or chest x-ray) upon hire.
- Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire.
