Position 1: Telecommunications Construction General LabourerJob Description
We are seeking a hardworking and dependable Telecommunications Construction General Labourer to assist with daily construction operations.
The successful candidate will support telecommunications outside plant construction, including excavation, conduit installation, ground-level box installation, site preparation, restoration, and general labour duties.
This position involves outdoor physical work in different weather conditions and requires someone who is reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work well with a crew.
Responsibilities
- Perform general labour duties related to telecommunications construction.
- Assist with excavation, conduit installation, and site preparation.
- Use hand tools such as trenching shovels, sledgehammers, concrete saws, and pickaxes.
- Assist with the installation of ground-level boxes, conduit, micro conduit, and fibre optic infrastructure.
- Read utility locates and help identify possible conflicts in the field.
- Assist with vacuum excavation, drilling operations, conduit tie-ins, and connections.
- Operate or assist with equipment such as mini excavators, F550 dump trucks, cube vans, trailers, compressors, and compaction tools.
- Assist with concrete cutting, forming, pouring, finishing, and restoration work.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and site requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid G Driver’s Licence with a clean driving abstract required.
- DZ or AZ licence is considered an asset.
- Experience in telecommunications outside plant construction is considered an asset.
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labour in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Experience operating construction equipment is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of horizontal directional drilling is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of safety when working around live utilities.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
Position 2: Telecommunications Excavator OperatorJob Description
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Telecommunications Excavator Operator to join our team.
The successful candidate will operate excavators and related equipment for telecommunications infrastructure installation. This includes excavation around live utilities, conduit installation, ground-level box installation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and site restoration.
This role requires strong equipment operating experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in utility construction environments.
A valid AZ licence is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate excavators and other heavy equipment for telecommunications construction.
- Excavate around live utilities while following safe digging practices.
- Read and interpret utility locates to identify conflicts and prevent utility strikes.
- Install ground-level boxes, conduit, micro conduit, and related telecommunications infrastructure.
- Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and site restoration.
- Work with supervisors, project managers, locators, and crew members to complete excavation work safely and accurately.
- Complete routine inspections and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Load, move, and transport materials safely using appropriate equipment and methods.
- Participate in safety meetings and follow all workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate site and equipment-related documentation when required.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, crew members, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as an Excavator Operator, preferably in telecommunications or utility construction.
- Heavy equipment operating experience required.
- Valid AZ licence required.
- Valid excavator operator certification/licence is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret utility locates.
- Experience digging around live utilities.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices.
- Knowledge of telecom infrastructure installation, including ground-level boxes, conduit placement, and fibre network preparation.
- Ability to perform backfilling, grading, and concrete/asphalt restoration.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Ability to read project plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with a crew.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
