Job Title: Lead Hand-Shoulder Spreader Operator

The Midland/Shoulder Spreader Operator is responsible for the operation of the shouldering machine to complete highway and road construction projects while planning and coordinating with the shouldering team; ensuring the quality of work and safety of workforce and general public. He/she will be required to provide crew leadership and consistent communication to employees who are part of the shouldering team in order for this moving operation to run effectively and efficiently. Professional communication with staff and third parties is necessary at all times, to ensure satisfactory completion of construction work.
Essential Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Coordinating job site setup and communicate to employees the work process.
- Communicate directly with onsite customer personnel, inspectors, and D&D personnel to ensure job requirements and scheduling requirements are communicated to all involved parties.
- Perform daily circle check and inspection of the midland machine along with general housekeeping.
- Check, lubricate, refuel and clean equipment and report any malfunctions to the supervisor and/or shop
- Ensure the set up the equipment so the grade and slope of material is applied according to the general contractor specifications
- Operate heavy shoulder spreading equipment to lay, spread or compact stone and other surface materials during highway and road construction
- May be required to operate other heavy equipment such as backhoes, compaction rollers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities
- Work directly with the Shouldering Supervisor to manage personnel, customers, equipment and awarded job contracts.
- Complete daily field ticket and work order reports.
- Adhere to the OHSA safety requirements and as set out by D&D.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Will be required to work out of town on a regular basis (Monday through Friday) with overnight stays required.
Qualifications:
- 5 + years’ experience in a road construction/maintenance environment
- Mechanical aptitude with substantial heavy equipment operation experience
- Excellent communication and people skills
- AZ/DZ license is an asset
- Will need to provide 2-3 references
