Status: Casual Part Time
Department: AJAX LTC FOOD SERVICES
Program: Long Term Care
4 and 8 Hour Shifts, On-Call Schedule (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Ajax, ON - Long Term Care
Wage Schedule: $27.030 - $28.330 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 2 June 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 9 June 2026.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the Dietary Aide will provide support to the set-up, preparation, serving, and clean up associated with all meal services at the Lakeridge Gardens 320 bed long term care home built on the Ajax-Pickering site.

This new home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care, specialized care units and other important innovative features.

Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, this new long-term care home is integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario.

The Dietary Aide is responsible for:

Performing inventory functions to ensure proper products and adequate supplies are available
Storing supplies in their proper locations and rotating them appropriately in order to use old stock first
Assisting with the planning of food items and ingredient control
Serving meals to residents by offering choice in food and beverages for all diet types and textures
Preparing food and beverages as required for outpatients and visitors
Operating retherm units
Assisting cooks as needed with food preparation, planning, and portioning
Setting up and cleaning the kitchen and dining areas as required
Verifying, documenting, and reporting discrepancies of various temperatures, including food/beverages at point of service, fridges, freezers, and dish and pot washing machines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma
Completion of an approved Food Service Worker Certificate, or equivalent dilpoma as recognized by the Ministry of Long-Term Care
Completion of an approved Food Handler's course
Relevant food service experience in a health care environment is preferred
Demonstrated compliance with and knowledge of safe work practices
Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions
Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area
