Preventative Maintenance Locksmith / Service Technician
Gamble Lock Door and Glass Inc. is looking for an experienced Locksmith / Service Technician to join our team in a role focused primarily on preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and service of commercial door and locking hardware.
This is a travelling position. Initially, the successful candidate will service customer locations throughout Ontario.
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, organized, comfortable working independently, and able to identify potential problems before they become emergency service issues.
What You'll Be Doing
The primary focus of this position will be completing scheduled preventative maintenance visits at commercial customer locations.
Responsibilities will include:
- Performing preventative maintenance inspections on commercial doors, frames, locks, and related hardware
- Inspecting sites for worn, damaged, improperly adjusted, or failing components
- Servicing, adjusting, repairing, and replacing commercial locking and door hardware
- Servicing door closers, hinges, exit devices, levers, deadbolts, and other door commercial hardware
- Identifying deficiencies and recommending repairs or replacements
- Completing minor repairs during scheduled maintenance visits where appropriate
- Clearly documenting deficiencies requiring additional work
- Taking accurate site measurements, photographs, and notes for quoting and future service
- Completing service documentation and inspection reports accurately
- Communicating professionally with customer representatives while on site
- Maintaining company tools, equipment, parts, and service vehicle
- Coordinating with our office team regarding scheduling, deficiencies, required materials, and follow-up work
- Travelling throughout Ontario, including overnight travel when required
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with commercial locksmithing, commercial doors, or architectural hardware.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous experience as a locksmith, commercial door technician, or similar service technician
- Strong knowledge of commercial locks, door systems and door hardware
- Experience working with door closers, exit devices, hinges, thresholds, strikes, and related hardware
- Ability to troubleshoot door and hardware problems independently
- Ability to recognize deficiencies and determine appropriate repair recommendations
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to accurately document site conditions and completed work
- Comfortable using mobile devices and digital service software for reporting
- Professional communication and customer service skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Valid driver's licence and clean driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively
Experience with automatic door operators, hollow metal doors/frames, storefront doors, or glass/aluminum door systems would be considered an asset.
Travel Requirements
Travel is a significant part of this position.
The role will initially involve scheduled preventative maintenance work at customer locations throughout Ontario. Depending on the location and scope of work, this may include multi-day trips and overnight stays.
As our preventative maintenance program expands, the successful candidate will also be expected to travel to customer locations throughout Canada.
Travel expenses and accommodations for approved out-of-town work will be covered in accordance with company policy.
What Makes This Role Different
This position is focused on preventing problems rather than simply responding to emergencies.
You'll be responsible for reviewing commercial door and hardware systems, identifying developing issues, completing preventative repairs, and helping our customers reduce breakdowns and emergency service calls.
The position is well suited to an experienced technician who enjoys:
- Working independently
- Travelling and seeing different customer locations
- Troubleshooting mechanical problems
- Having ownership of their work
- Completing a variety of smaller repairs rather than remaining on one construction site
- Identifying problems and determining practical solutions
- Building long-term relationships with commercial customers
