We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Coordinator/ Lead for a contract opportunity at a remote fly-in, fly-out mining operation in the Arctic, operating on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. This role will support environmental compliance, monitoring, and field coordination activities related to ongoing site construction and operations, working closely with site teams, contractors, and regulators. The position offers $90/hour plus overtime after 8 hours per day, 12-hour shifts, paid flights, and camp accommodations, with a targeted start date in June. Criminal record check, references and medical is required.

The Senior Environmental Coordinator/ Lead will be responsible for overseeing environmental compliance, monitoring programs, and field execution activities in support of mining construction and operational initiatives at site. This role will provide leadership and coordination to environmental field personnel and contractors while ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory approvals, company standards, and environmental management plans.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and coordinate daily environmental monitoring and compliance activities associated with construction, operational, and reclamation projects
- Provide field leadership and oversight to environmental staff, contractors, and consultants working on site
- Support construction planning and operational execution through active participation in site coordination and planning meetings
- Oversee environmental inspection programs, including erosion and sediment control, water management, waste management, wildlife observations, and spill prevention measures
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory inspections and engagement activities with government agencies and the First Nation of Na-cho Nyak Dun
- Ensure environmental commitments, permit conditions, and regulatory obligations are implemented and maintained across site activities
- Lead environmental incident response activities, including reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up monitoring
- Coordinate environmental sampling programs including surface water, groundwater, air quality, hydrology, sediment, soil, vegetation, and aquatic monitoring activities
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, and functionality of environmental monitoring equipment and field instrumentation
- Support the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of environmental management systems, monitoring programs, and site initiatives
- Review field data, environmental reports, inspection records, and regulatory submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Assist with environmental project planning, contractor coordination, scheduling, logistics, and field execution
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures
- Mentor and support junior environmental personnel and contribute to team development and operational excellence
- Maintain effective working relationships with site operations, construction teams, Indigenous communities, regulators, and external stakeholders
- Support operational readiness and environmental risk management in remote northern and camp-based conditions
Main Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in environmental coordination, construction oversight, or mining operations support, preferably within remote northern environments
- Technical Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience coordinating field teams, contractors, and environmental programs
- Experience supporting large-scale mining construction or operational projects is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and industry best practices related to mining and construction activities
- Experience implementing erosion and sediment control programs, water quality monitoring, groundwater monitoring, hydrology programs, and environmental inspection protocols
- Experience with spill response, environmental incident management, and corrective action implementation is considered an asset
- Strong organizational, communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office; experience with ArcGIS and environmental databases is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently in remote camp environments and in challenging weather and terrain conditions
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and diverse stakeholders
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; experience operating 4WD vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, or off-road equipment is considered an asset
