Full job description

A respected and well-established Vancouver law firm is seeking an experienced Family Law Legal Assistant to join its Family Law Department, supporting a Partner, incoming Associate, and departmental Paralegal. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident managing complex family law files with professionalism and accuracy.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys becoming an integral member of a collaborative legal team, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and demonstrates strong initiative, sound judgment, and exceptional client service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Preparing correspondence, family law agreements, pleadings, and various court documents
Scheduling court dates, mediations, discoveries, trials, and communicating with court registries and opposing counsel
Arranging court filings, applications, and litigation-related documentation
Tracking court dates, limitation dates, deadlines, and maintaining bring forward (“BF”) systems
Assisting with the preparation of court applications, trial briefs, application records, and trial exhibits
Maintaining lawyer calendars, scheduling client appointments, and managing email correspondence
Managing files from inception to closure
Conducting monthly billing processes and file maintenance
Providing dictation and general administrative support as required
Maintaining regular communication with clients throughout the litigation process
Assisting with overall practice coordination and workflow management

Qualifications and Skills:

Completion of an accredited Legal Administrative Assistant program preferred
3–5+ years of experience working within a busy law firm environment, preferably in Family Law and/or litigation
Strong understanding of BC court procedures and family law processes
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and deadline management skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and work well under pressure within a fast-paced environment
Ability to independently manage multiple active files and adapt quickly to changing priorities
Strong client service orientation and emotional intelligence
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professional, proactive, dependable, and highly organized approach
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, FileSite/iManage DMS, DivorceMate, and Elite 3E accounting software considered an asset
