Your Opportunity:

Unit 3–4 at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is seeking a detail‑oriented and organized Unit Clerk to provide essential administrative support to a sub‑acute inpatient forensic psychiatric unit. This role plays a key part in supporting safe, efficient, and patient‑centred care within a legally sensitive mental health environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical and communication skills, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced setting. The Unit Clerk provides comprehensive clerical support to an interdisciplinary healthcare team, serving as the primary point of contact for the unit. Responsibilities include reception services, data entry, records and document management, appointment booking, coordination of patient transportation, and effective use of clinical, staffing, and scheduling systems. This role requires strict adherence to confidentiality standards, forensic security protocols, and adaptability to changing operational needs, including providing coverage on other units as required. Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Unit Clerk, Medical Office Assistant, or Administrative Assistant program is required. Demonstrated recent experience in a healthcare administrative or unit clerk role. Proficiency in Connect Care is a requirement. Proficiency in Info Workforce Management (WFM) systems is mandatory. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a secure, high acuity forensic mental health environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, discretion, and respect for confidentiality. Experience adapting to change and working with diverse teams and personalities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in in-patient mental health, forensic psychiatry, or acute care settings. Familiarity with legal, court related, or Review Board documentation is an asset. Experience supporting multidisciplinary clinical teams in a healthcare environment. Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).
