We’re seeking a Intermediate/ Senior Estimator to join our team and play a key role in securing and delivering successful projects. As a Intermediate/Senior Estimator specializing in Underground Utilities and Civil Earthworks, you will:
- Lead the full estimating process for complex civil infrastructure projects, including deep utilities, water/sewer systems, large-scale earthworks, grading, roadworks, and site servicing.
- Oversee the preparation of highly detailed, accurate, and strategic estimates, ensuring completeness, risk awareness, and alignment with project execution strategies.
- Manage multiple large-scale tenders simultaneously.
- Evaluate, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier proposals, ensuring coverage of scope gaps, clarifications, and risk items.
- Provide strategic insight during project handoff, assisting Project Managers with buyout processes, tender binders, and pricing strategies.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated cost models based on historical performance, production rates, geotechnical considerations, equipment utilization, and field feedback.
- ·Build and maintain strong industry relationships with owners, consultants, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers to support upcoming opportunities and market intelligence.
- Identify and communicate risk, including design gaps, schedule constraints, soil or groundwater challenges, environmental requirements, and constructability concerns.
- Maintain and refine comprehensive databases for labor, equipment, materials, trucking, and project benchmarks, ensuring accuracy and continuous improvement across the estimating department.
- Lead estimate revisions as new drawings, addenda, or design developments are issued, providing impact assessments and strategic recommendations.
- Proactively identify value engineering options, alternative construction methods, sequencing strategies, and cost-saving opportunities without compromising design intent.
- Collaborate closely with operations teams to align bids with realistic production expectations, equipment planning, manpower loading, and site logistics.
- Support the organization by providing market insights, competitive intelligence, and feedback on upcoming opportunities, procurement strategies, and tender selection.
You’re ideally suited for this position if:
- You have a civil engineering, construction management, or related technical degree/diploma, with 5+ years of estimating experience specifically in underground utilities, earthworks, and civil infrastructure.
- You bring strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior estimators and support a collaborative, high-performing team.
- You are highly proficient with estimating software, digital measurement tools, and advanced takeoff methodologies.
- You possess deep knowledge of civil construction methodologies, trenching, shoring, dewatering, pipe materials, soil classifications, equipment capabilities, and municipal/infrastructure standards.
- You understand a range of contract formats, including unit price, lump sum, design-build, and CM contracts, and can interpret contractual risk with confidence.
- You think strategically, work well under pressure, and maintain accuracy and organization in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- You bring a seasoned understanding of project management principles, scheduling, risk analysis, constructability, and real-world production constraints.
- You have the ability to influence tender strategy, collaborate with senior leadership, and help shape the company’s competitive edge in the marketplace.
