About the Role

The Amir Group of Companies (Amir Quality Meats; Sierra Custom Foods; Amir Specialty Poultry) is one of Canada’s largest, and most trusted, independent processors and distributors of zabiha halal meats. Muslim-owned and proudly certified and endorsed by the Dr. Imam Hamid Slimi of the Syeda Khadija Centre and Manna Halal Monitoring and Certification Agency, we only produce high-quality halal food that we would bring home to our own families.

The Role: We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable HACCP Coordinator to join our Quality Assurance team at our Amir Specialty Poultry (ASP) facility in Arthur, Ontario. Reporting to the FSQA Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the plant’s HACCP system and prerequisite programs in accordance with the CFIA Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) and the plant’s Preventive Control Plan (PCP). This is a critical role in ensuring the ongoing food safety, regulatory compliance, and CFIA registration status of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

HACCP & Preventive Control Plan (PCP) Management

● Develop, implement, and maintain the plant’s HACCP plan and Preventive Control Plan in accordance with CFIA SFCR requirements and CFIA-approved generic models.

● Conduct and lead hazard analyses, and review and update critical control points (CCPs), critical limits, and monitoring procedures on an ongoing basis.

● Maintain and update prerequisite programs (SSOPs, sanitation, pest control, allergen control, recall, traceability, receiving, and chemical control) to remain current with regulatory and operational changes.

CFIA Compliance & Regulatory Liaison

● Act as the primary point of contact for CFIA inspectors and veterinarians on-site, addressing inspection findings, non-conformances, and corrective action requests in a timely manner.

● Prepare, submit, and maintain documentation required to support the plant’s CFIA licence and Preventive Control Plan, including responses to Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and Notices of Non-Compliance.

● Stay current on changes to the SFCR, CFIA policy, and applicable food safety regulations, and update plant programs accordingly.

Monitoring, Verification & Records

● Review daily monitoring records, CCP logs, and sanitation records to verify compliance with established critical limits and procedures.

● Conduct internal audits and pre-operational and operational inspections of the facility, identifying deviations and initiating corrective and preventive actions.

● Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready HACCP and food safety documentation to support CFIA inspections and third-party audits.

Training & Continuous Improvement

● Deliver HACCP, GMP, and food safety training to plant employees and supervisors, and maintain training records.

● Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) investigations related to food safety deviations, customer complaints, or recalls.

● Participate in mock recalls and traceability exercises to verify the effectiveness of the plant’s recall program.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Work closely with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure food safety requirements are understood and consistently applied on the plant floor.

● Support and liaise with other Amir Group divisions as required on an occasional basis.

● Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

● Must have: Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

● Must have: Completed HACCP certification (recognized by CFIA); PCP or SFCR training is considered an asset.

● 2–4 years of experience in a food safety or quality assurance role within a federally registered (CFIA) meat, poultry, or food processing facility.

● Working knowledge of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), CFIA generic HACCP models, GMPs, and prerequisite programs.

● Experience preparing for and participating in CFIA inspections and third-party food safety audits (e.g., SQF, BRC, or equivalent).

● Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage documentation in a fast-paced production environment.

● Effective communication skills, with the ability to train staff and liaise confidently with regulatory officials.

● Comfortable working in a cold, wet, and physically active plant environment as required.
