Full job description

Cox Contractors Ltd. is a family-owned, multi-service civil contractor serving Northern Alberta. We specialize in aggregate supply, gravel crushing, earthworks, bridge construction, and hauling services. We are committed to safety, quality workmanship, and investing in our local communities.

We are currently seeking a qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic or Truck & Transport Mechanic to join our team. This position involves working on a mixed fleet of heavy equipment, highway tractors, and gravel trailers in a shop and field environment.

Work Environment

Construction and civil contracting
Shop and field service
Fleet includes:
Highway tractors (Kenworth, etc.)
Gravel trailers and end dumps
Excavators, loaders, dozers, and support equipment
Crushing and aggregate equipment

Responsibilities

Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, highway tractors, and trailers
Perform preventative maintenance and CVIP inspections
Troubleshoot and repair:
Diesel engines
Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Electrical systems and wiring
Air brake systems
Transmissions, differentials, and driveline components
Inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace engine, brake, steering, suspension, and hydraulic components
Repair and overhaul alternators, starters, solenoids, and electrical systems
Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software
Prepare service reports and work orders
Perform field service repairs when required
Maintain safe and clean work environment

Qualifications

Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic or Truck & Transport Mechanic (Red Seal preferred)
Apprentices (1st to 4th year) will be considered
Minimum 3+ years experience preferred
Strong knowledge of:
Diesel engines
Hydraulic systems
Electrical and air brake systems
Experience with Caterpillar equipment considered an asset
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently
Valid driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset)
Welding and fabrication experience considered an asset
