Who we are

Schafer Industries is an excavation and earthworks company based in Kelowna. We dig foundations, trench utilities, grade sites, handle drainage, and move dirt for residential, multi-family, and small commercial builds across the Okanagan and the Interior.

We're small. We're growing. And we care a lot about how the work gets done — not just that it got done.

What you'd be doing

This is a layout role first, operator role second. You're the guy who takes a set of prints and turns them into something the machine can follow.

A typical day:

Reading site plans and grading plans, then laying it out — building corners, footings, batter boards, elevations, slopes
Working with string lines, laser, and transit
Checking grades as the dig goes
Jumping on a machine when it's your turn — minis, mid-size, full-size excavators, skid steer, dozer, compactor
Running the site so the next step is always ready to go
Working directly with me on how to attack each job

What I'm looking for

2–5 years in excavation or earthworks (not required)
Solid layout skills — you can pick up a set of prints and get to work without someone holding your hand
Confident on multiple machines
Class 5 license minimum (Class 3 with air is a bonus)
Safe, clean, and on time

Tickets like 1st aid, traffic control, or confined space are a plus but not a dealbreaker.
