We are currently looking for dependable and motivated individuals to join our Food Services team in casual Cook and Food Services Aide positions.
Applicants may apply for the Cook position, Food Services Aide position, or both, depending on their qualifications, experience, and interests.
Position Summary
As part of Salem Manor's Food Services team, our Cooks and Food Services Aides work together to provide residents with safe, nutritious, and enjoyable meals while maintaining a clean and organized food service environment.
Cooks are responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with approved menus, standardized recipes, therapeutic diets, and food safety requirements. They also provide guidance and support to the Food Services team and assist with kitchen operations in the absence of the Support Services Supervisor.
Food Services Aides support food preparation, meal service and delivery, dishwashing, sanitation, stocking, and the day-to-day operation of the Food Services department.
Part Time and Casual positions available.
Key Responsibilities
Cook
- Prepare and cook meals, baked goods, and menu items according to standardized recipes and production schedules.
- Prepare meals according to resident dietary requirements, therapeutic diets, and portion control standards.
- Maintain food quality, consistency, presentation, and appropriate temperatures.
- Ensure food is safely prepared, handled, labeled, stored, rotated, and served.
- Receive and appropriately store food and supply deliveries.
- Maintain inventory and assist with minimizing food waste.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Coordinate daily kitchen operations in the absence of the Support Services Supervisor.
- Provide guidance and support to Food Services team members as required.
Food Services Aide
- Assist with food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Set up dining and serving areas for meal service.
- Portion and serve meals, beverages, snacks, and nourishments according to resident dietary requirements.
- Deliver and retrieve meal carts and food service equipment.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen, food preparation, and dining areas.
- Prepare beverages, nourishments, and individual resident snacks.
- Restock kitchenettes, serving areas, and food service supplies.
- Assist with cafeteria service and cash handling as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience is an asset
- Willingness to be cross-trained in laundry and kitchen operations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of infection control practices (preferred)
- Ability to perform physical tasks (standing, lifting, bending)
- (Cook) Institutional or long-term care cooking experience is considered an asset.
- (Cook) Food Safe Certification or willingness to successfully complete the required Food Safe course.
