R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited and Neegan Burnside Ltd. are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Junior Water & Wastewater Engineer to join our Winnipeg office. This junior-level position, ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer with 1–3 years of experience, who enjoys solving practical infrastructure challenges and contributing to municipal projects from planning and design through construction. You will work with senior staff and project managers to deliver a variety of water and wastewater assignments across Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility in project coordination and client support.
What You’ll Do:
- Support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects (linear and vertical) under the guidance of intermediate and senior engineers.
- Assist in the preparation of design calculations, drawings inputs, technical reports, specifications, and tender/construction contract documents.
- Coordinate with engineering staff, technologists, and drafting teams to advance project deliverables.
- Contribute to technical reports, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Participate in field investigations, condition assessments, and data collection; compile and summarize findings for review by the project team.
- Support construction-phase activities (shop drawing review, RFIs, site visits) under the supervision of the project team.
- Communicate effectively within the project team and, with guidance, support client-facing interactions.
- Build technical skills and professional competency through mentorship, training, and progressively increasing responsibility on project assignments.
What You Bring:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registered with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM), or eligible for EIT registration; recent P.Eng. applicants also welcome.
- Minimum 1–3 years of progressive experience (including co-op/internship) in consulting and/or other municipal water/wastewater design.
- Foundational knowledge of or strong academic interest in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, applicable standards, and design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to assist in producing engineering deliverables including calculations, drawings inputs, and technical reports.
- Strong organization and communication skills, with the ability to manage tasks and priorities under supervision.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach; eager to learn within a fast-paced, multi-project consulting environment.
Preferred Skills and Assets:
- Academic or practical exposure to water/wastewater infrastructure design (water treatment plants, lagoons, pumping stations, watermains, sewers, forcemains) or civil site servicing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or related design software.
- Experience with civil site servicing, grading, and site design.
- Familiarity working with Indigenous clients and communities.
- Enrolment in or completion of the EGM Engineer-in-Training (EIT) professional development program.
