Chief Lift Mechanic / Foreman is a full-time year-round position responsible for overseeing lift maintenance operations, ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of all lift systems, and supporting the resort’s mechanical team with specialized expertise in ropeway systems. Mount St. Louis Moonstone operates a modern fleet of high-speed chairlifts and advanced ropeway systems that require specialized technical expertise to maintain, inspect, and operate safely and efficiently.

The Foreman must have previous hands-on experience in advanced ropeway systems, including installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting for a high-volume ski resort operation. They must be an experienced technical expert to ensure safe operations, minimize downtime, and support ongoing system performance.

Candidate requires experienced leadership with lift maintenance teams. The Chief Lift Mechanic / Foreman plays a critical role in overseeing daily operations, mentoring staff, and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Chief Lift Mechanic / Foreman key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Oversee day-to-day lift maintenance operations and mechanical team

· Ensure safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of all lift systems

· Perform and supervise:

o Mechanical assembly and disassembly

o Rope inspection, splicing, and maintenance

o Lift calibration, tuning, and adjustment

o Rigging and mechanical work

o Structural alignment and component installation

· Conduct regular inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards

· Train and mentor lift maintenance staff

· Coordinate with operations and other department’s management teams

· Maintain documentation and follow internal procedures

· Promote a strong culture of health and safety for staff and guests

· Support troubleshooting and emergency response as required

· Perform other related duties as needed in a mountain environment

· Stay informed about lift regulations, the Ontario Elevating Devices Act, and the national Z98 code.

· Contribute to the long-term reliability of lift systems and components.

· Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping and work orders, ideally after each task.

· Plan and organize daily tasks and priorities for Lift Maintenance crews, schedule assignments during absences.

· Foster effective communication between Lift Maintenance and other departments.

· Adhere to and enforce proper procedures for using shop tools (e.g., sign-out/in).

· Create a motivated and safe workplace.

· Identify hazards, train employees, and take reasonable precautions to prevent risks.

· Comply with all resort policies and procedures; ensure staff adherence and lead by example, especially regarding lockout procedures and vehicle use

Requirements

Qualifications must include:

· Advanced ropeway system setup, calibration, and adjustment

· Experience with lift drive systems, braking systems, and hydraulics

· Steel cable inspection and splicing

· Installation and maintenance of lift components and mechanical systems

· Troubleshooting and diagnostics of lift operations

· Experience working in mountainous and remote environments

· Strong understanding of safety procedures and operational protocols

· Advanced expertise in Doppelmayr D-Line lift systems, including system setup, calibration, and adjustment

· Experience with hydraulic tensioning systems and pipe cleaning procedures specific to Doppelmayr installations

· In-depth knowledge of steel cable inspection and splicing

· Strong working knowledge of Doppelmayr braking systems, including:

o D-type brake systems

o E-type brake systems

· Experience with electric and diesel motors and associated mechanical and drive components

· Installation, maintenance, and inspection of both fixed-grip and detachable (disengage able) lift systems

· Hands-on experience with D-Line grip systems, including:

o D3000 grip

o D5000 grip

· Thorough understanding of Doppelmayr operational procedures and maintenance protocols

· Troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance optimization of lift systems

· Experience working in mountainous and remote environments

· Strong commitment to safety standards and regulatory compliance

This knowledge must have been developed through minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience and specialized training and is directly applicable to the operational needs of Mount St. Louis Moonstone.

Supervising lift mechanics and maintenance staff
Scheduling inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance
Overseeing chairlift, conveyor lift, and mechanical system repairs
Ensuring compliance with safety standards such as Technical Standards and Safety Authority requirements in Ontario
Ordering parts and equipment
Training apprentices or junior mechanics
Managing maintenance records and reports
Coordinating shutdowns/startups for lift operations
extensive experience in lift electrical.
Testing, setup and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems
Supervising and training electrical installation
Fault finding electrical systems
Maintenance electrical systems
construction and installation of the mechanical/steel structures

· Valid TSSA SLM-A certification.

· Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Lift Mechanic.

· Knowledge of TSSA Lift Operating Requirements, Z98-07 or 209-01, and Directors Safety Orders.

· Experience operating carpet lifts, fixed grip, and detachable ski lifts.

· Training and experience in lift evacuation procedures.

· Supervisory experience.

· Understanding of risk management principles.

· Knowledgeable in Health and Safety Code.

· WHMIS certification.

· Experience with snowmobiles, ATVs, and Kubota equipment.

· Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions

· Comfortable with climbing lift towers and working at heights (including using ladders)

· Physically fit for tasks such as shoveling snow

· Lift up to 40 lbs independently; use assistance for anything heavier

· Ability to remain stationary outside for extended periods

· Maintain stability on uneven surfaces and in icy conditions

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
