Eligibility:
- Be currently enrolled in a post-secondary college or university program OR have graduated in 2026.
- The post-secondary program should be in a related field or additional coursework/certification in fundraising, event management, or marketing with educational, work, or intern experience in the nonprofit sector.
The Fundraising Intern is a key member of the Girls Inc. of York Region team whose primary goal during the summer contract will be fund development, to increase partnerships, and awareness from local businesses, individual donors, and fundraising event coordination. The primary responsibility is to actively support the communications team in the fundraising and communication of events, fundraising campaigns and GIYR programs and activities. The intern will work closely with staff and will report to the communications manager and, indirectly, the executive director.
Duties:
- Research, identify, and outreach to local businesses with sponsorship and in-kind donation requests.
- Research opportunities and collaborate on communications strategies and initiatives to build relationships with sponsors.
- Assist in the planning of a winter gala
- Assist with marketing, social media and eNewsletters
- Collaborate with the Special Events and Marketing team in all event production
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with corporate partners and private businesses, leveraging existing connections and establishing new partnerships to optimise fundraising outcomes, increase participation levels, and enhance GIYR.
- Develop opportunities for a Cause Related Marketing program
- Assist in the planning and execution of all GIYR partnerships, PR activations and fundraising events. Develop critical paths, source event-related merchandise, and create promotional materials to ensure seamless execution of events.
- Manage post-event activities, such as drafting thank-you notes and emails, preparing donor gifts, updating relevant databases, etc.
- Proactively seek new ideas and trends in event management, continuously exploring innovative approaches to enhance fundraising effectiveness, engage donors, and elevate the overall event experience.
- Adept at leveraging technology and digital platforms to enhance event marketing, ticket sales, and donor outreach, driving increased participation and revenue generation.
- Liaison with Marketing and Communications on event branding and social media outreach.
- Strategically focus on soliciting corporate prospects for sponsorship and support, maximising fundraising potential and enhancing corporate partnerships.

Skills, Knowledge, and Other Requirements:
- A G2 license and a vehicle is a requirement.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- good organisational and project management skills;
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, PowerPoint, and Canva is required, and knowledge of social media and web applications (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram)
- Approach each situation with positive and constructive energy, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate, cooperate, and work well with others.
- It will be extremely important that the intern can also work independently and take initiative.
- The Fundraising Intern will assist in managing multiple projects and efforts to support the organisation's mission through effective communication, research, promotional materials, and special events logistics planning and donation procurement.
- Gain an understanding of the relationship between development, programming, outreach, and marketing.
- A strong sense of professionalism and willingness to work with others, the ability to take initiative and an interest in supporting the organization's mission.
- Skills with programs such as WordPress, etc., as well as Photoshop are a plus. Marketing and communication skills will be beneficial but not essential.
Note: This is NOT a remote role. All 5 days a week at our Aurora office. (154 Wellington St. E. Aurora, ON)
A G2 license and vehicle is a requirement.
A clear Vulnerable Sector Screening from your local police service is required for the role.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday (occasional evening or weekend work required for events)
35 hours per week
