Project Manager Geoscience - Canada
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Project Manager Geoscience, you will be responsible for liaison with clients, and internal and external communications regarding planning and delivery of geophysical log data. You will be leading a small team of Field Technicians and supporting quality control, processing, and interpretation of geophysical log data as well.

WSG (Canada) is a leading supplier of specialist geophysical wireline logging, ground electromagnetic (EM) and borehole EM geophysical survey services to the resource industry in Australia and Canada. WSG (Canada) operates out of a modern base in Sudbury, Ontario.
DUTIES
The primary responsibilities of a Project Manager Geoscience include but are not limited to:
Account Management:
- Increase the company’s involvement with existing clients
- Attend client meeting and liaise with the field team to ensure a customer experience to the highest standard
- Build retreat and lead generation network
- Serves as the main point of contact between Data, Operations, Safety and the Client
- Support quoting and invoicing when required
Data Management:
- Checking and collating standard field data for delivery to clients utilizing in house data checking software and workflows
- Process and interpret geophysical log data according to prescribed workflows
- Identify errors and areas of improvements for loggers, procedures and training
- Ensure all archiving processes are adhered with
Reporting:
- Generate regular data reports of work completed (e.g., Logging Update report) for internal reporting and client reports
- Report on data errors or omissions from the field
- Reporting of any identified data quality incidents, including follow-up to ensure incidents are closed
- Report on daily activities using a browser-based reporting system
- Attend weekly Senior Staff Meeting with reports, feedback, and suggestions
Leadership:
- Mentor, lead, and supervise field staff and supervisors to deliver safe and timely delivery of services in compliance with all relevant regulations and legislation as well as WSG and Client procedures
- Notify the GM Executive of any issues affecting delivery or quality of services, personnel performance, and/or safety, and work with them to action these
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained to the highest standards and ensure field staff are aware of, and exceeding the expected standard
- Regularly (monthly at minimum) carry out field audits and inspections on equipment and personnel to ensure that all equipment inspections and safe work practices are followed appropriately and actioned in a timely fashion
- Action feedback on field staff reviews and recommendations and mentor supervisors on the outcomes
- Supply feedback for Supervisors reviews and recommendations
- Lead field staff and supervisors in the implementation of improved procedures and systems
- Support the Company’s Mentor Program to ensure that mentors provide quality mentoring, conduct trainee assessments and provide regular feedback
- Actively seek out leading training innovations and industry trends that may benefit the Company and communicate any benefits to assists in the growth of the Safety and Training department
Safety:
- Mentor your team to take a proactive approach to HSE related procedures and regularly contribute to health safety and environment forums, initiatives and consultations, including regular toolbox meetings and safety forums and audits
- Take an active role in field and off-site safety forums with the client and external stakeholders
- Lead field staff and supervisors in a culture of always operating company vehicles and equipment in a safe manner
- Conduct inductions, training and seek knowledge from external sources to ensure that operations comply with all Regulatory, company and client safety requirements and pass this knowledge to your field staff
- Ensure incidents are identified and reported as soon as possible, contribute as part of an investigation team, and action recommendations and controls as required
Service Quality Objectives:
- Able to generate results with less than 2% client rejection (error rate)
- Delivery of all data as per client requirements
- Accurately report and close out Data Quality incidents
Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to the identification and implementation of opportunities for continuous improvements in data collection, processing, and quality assurance of our geophysical data and services
- Provide timely feedback, guidance and training to GEOSCIENCE team members.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Minimum 3 years as a professional geoscientist
- Experience with wireline logging data (preferably mineral logging, but oilfield considered)
- Wellcad experience highly desirable
- Televiewer interpretation experience highly desirable
- Proficient spoken and written English
- Good problem solving and time management skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Experience working in a service company environment highly desirable
- Able to occasionally travel outside of Ontario for field audits
- Familiarity with Canadian mine geology desirable
- High level of computer literacy
- Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical Assessment
