ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Superintendent, Property Management, this position will assist in winter and summer property maintenance, including trails, buildings, equipment, snow plowing, and minor construction projects on CVC lands. The Assistant Lead Hand provides direction to hourly staff, operates machinery, tools, and equipment, completes daily work assignments, and assists in the planning and execution of minor building projects.
QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma and direct work experience related to major tasks
-
Valid Ontario Class “G2 or G” driver’s license in good standing
-
1 year experience directly related to park operations, winter maintenance, land care and facility maintenance
-
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
-
Available to work some weekends and holidays in the winter
-
Strong communication and customer service experience
-
General knowledge of construction, machinery and equipment use, maintenance, and repairs
-
Experience operating various vehicles/equipment such as trucks, utility vehicles, tractors, generators, power equipment, and small motors
-
Landscaping and trail maintenance experience
-
Experience operating/using various hand and power tools such as circular saws, table saws, drills, loppers, pole saws, battery chargers and air compressors
-
Experience operating a vehicle with a trailer attached
-
Ability to work effectively alone, when required
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
-
Operate and maintain a variety of equipment such as three-quarter ton pick-up trucks with front-mounted snowplows, gas/electric ride-on lawnmowers and weed trimmers, gas/electric powered pole saws, woodchipper, wood splitter, and trucks towing trailers

Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including circular saws, drills, generators, loppers, handsaws, pole pruners, and axes
-
Ensure the safe operation and daily inspection of CVC owned and operated equipment
-
Execute maintenance of trails, boardwalks, bridges, benches, kiosks and picnic tables
-
Participate in snowplow on call schedule for properties that are owned and managed by CVC.

Assist with risk assessments of hazard trees on all CVC owned and managed properties.

Assist with tree removal in collaboration with other CVC departments or external contractors in accordance with CVC policies.

Assist in summer and winter maintenance activities in Conservation Areas, including but not limited to heavy lifting, carpentry, plumbing, grounds maintenance, dam maintenance, snow plowing and trail maintenance

Execute assigned day-to-day maintenance duties in various Conservation Areas in the watershed

Assist with seasonal equipment changeover

Ensure that work is conducted safely and that all CVC health and safety policies and procedures are always adhered to

Assist in conducting property liability inspections and complete inspection forms for supervisor review

Perform routine and preventative maintenance on Property management program-specific equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules.

Perform minor repairs to damaged equipment

Provide support for special events, volunteer workdays and other special requests on CVC properties.

Provide customer service when required and direct visitor concerns and complaints to the appropriate CVC staff
