Schedule:
Thursday - Monday, 10:30am - 7:00pm for a total of 40 hours per week.
Casual - as needed work.
Pay:
Starting wage is $28.00/hour with Red Seal Certification. Candidates without a Red Seal but the right experience will be considered for the 1st Cook rate starting at $27.60.
Position Summary:
The Red Seal Chef/Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals in accordance with resident needs, food safety standards, and the residence’s menus. This role supports overall kitchen operations, including coordinating workflow in assigned areas and collaborating with other culinary team members.
Participate in kitchen cleaning schedules and equipment maintenance routines while ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organized, and compliant with all sanitation and health regulations. This position plays a key role in enhancing the dining experience and overall well-being of our residents, while bringing a high level of skill, consistency, and creativity to the team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Red Seal Certification (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal culinary training preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of cooking experience; senior living experience a plus
- Food Safe Certification – Must complete within 90 days of hire if not already completed
- Advanced Food Service Training (AFST) – Must complete AFST within 90 days of hire if not already completed.
- Quality Assurance – Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation
- Food Safety & Sanitation – Knowledge of HACCP, local food safety regulations, and sanitation best practices
- Strong task organization, time management, and understanding of confidentiality
- Friendly, professional demeanor and ability to adapt
- Passion for food and people, with an innovative mindset
Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.
