Full job description

Our client, a well-established automotive dealership in Peterborough is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with automotive dealership accounting experience to take on a key leadership role within a growing organization.

Responsibilities

Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for dealership ownership and OEM requirements.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
Coordinate and support annual audits and OEM financial reviews.
Monitor and analyze departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, dealership policies, and manufacturer requirements.
Oversee and assist with onboarding, training and performance management of staff within the Accounting team (ie. AP/AR, deal clerk).
Manage inventory accounting and reconciliations (new vehicles, used vehicles, parts).
Oversee cash management and banking relationships.
Prepare and file GST/HST returns and other regulatory filings.
Supervise and mentor accounting team members.
Work closely with dealership management on financial planning and analysis.
Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
Manage dealership management system (DMS) accounting functions.
Support sales and service departments with financial processes and reporting.

Skills & Qualifications

Minimum 2+ years of automotive dealership accounting experience, in a current or previous Assistant Controller/ Controller role.
Strong knowledge of dealership operations and manufacturer accounting requirements.
Post-secondary education in Accounting; enrolment in or completion of CPA designation considered an asset.
Experience with DMS systems (ie. Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, PBS).
Proven experience preparing financial statements and management reports.
Strong understanding of inventory accounting (new/used vehicles, parts).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Team leadership and mentoring experience.
CPA designation or working towards completion is highly valued.
