Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Health & Community Services, Fleming College, this exciting full-time Faculty opportunity is based at the Peterborough Humane Society ¿ a unique partnership established to provide real-world learning for students of our Veterinary Technician program. As a full-time professor in The School of Health & Community Services, Veterinary Technician Program, you will play a key role in creating an immersive learning environment and experience that is inclusive of all students by way of using a variety of teaching methodologies, providing timely feedback, and through authentic and differentiated assessments. Faculty work and teach both individually and in teams to design, develop, and deliver curriculum to students using lectures, seminars, skills labs, and clinical placements.
An appointment to the Veterinary Technician program requires a Veterinary Technician diploma/advanced diploma and a bachelors degree in a related field (Bsc in Biology) or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from a Canadian Veterinary Medical Association accredited program and institution.
In addition to the above educational qualifications, you possess at least five years of current expertise in a veterinary practice or setting along with demonstrated experience and proficiency with veterinary skills and procedures. Candidates must be a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and maintain a current registration, in good standing, with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT). Also, recent experience with accreditation from an educational perspective or facility perspective is required. Due to the unique immersive delivery format for the Veterinary Technician program and the partnership with the Peterborough Humane Society, strong skills in maintaining business relationships and agreement compliance are required.
This role requires self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability to change and a passion for learning and student success. You can enhance the student experience by creating an immersive, rich and open learning environment that embraces creative teaching and evaluation methods that promote equity, diversity and inclusion. You can work independently and in a collaborative environment, with strong conflict resolution and leadership abilities, including the drive to continuously learn and achieve results through consultative decision-making processes. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as highly developed critical thinking/problem solving, and organizational/time management skills are required. This role requires the incumbent to demonstrate accountability and responsiveness to students, colleagues and the community, including a proven knowledge of current and upcoming industry trends in veterinary medicine.
You have demonstrated cultural awareness and a commitment to Fleming¿s Honouring the Rights of Indigenous People Policy. Extensive experience developing & delivering curriculum both in person and online in the form of lectures, seminars, labs, field trips, clinical placements, simulation, interprofessional educational experiences, and/or other innovative delivery methods is also required. You foster student success using effective, consistent and timely feedback underpinned with a competency and outcomes-based approach to achievement. Experience in an e-learning environment is a definite asset with proficiency in current veterinary education teaching technologies (including Learning Management Systems) is preferred.
