Chalex Construction is a growing Alberta-based commercial and institutional construction company known for its collaborative culture, practical leadership approach, and commitment to delivering high quality projects across the province.

As our operations continue to grow, we are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Construction Accounting Coordinator / Senior Bookkeeper to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, supporting both accounting and operational functions, and being part of a growing entrepreneurial company.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, dependable, solutions-focused, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

About the Role

The Construction Accounting Coordinator / Senior Bookkeeper will play a key role in supporting the financial and operational success of the organization. This position is responsible for a broad range of accounting and administrative functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, invoicing, job costing, reconciliations, and construction-related financial coordination.

The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure accurate financial tracking, timely reporting, and efficient day-to-day operations.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both accounting detail and operational coordination within a construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring accurate and timely processing
Process invoices, expense coding, payment tracking, and vendor documentation
Prepare client invoicing and assist with progress billing, holdback tracking, and project-related financial coordination
Support payroll processing and payroll-related administration
Assist with job costing, project cost tracking, and financial reporting support
Maintain accurate financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
Utilize QuickBooks Online (QBO), Procore, Microsoft Office, and related systems to support accounting and operational processes
Support Project Managers and leadership with financial reporting and operational coordination
Assist with subcontractor documentation, and administrative tracking
Maintain organized digital filing systems and accurate record management practices
Support quarterly GST filings and related accounting administration
Assist with month-end and year-end preparation activities
Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting, reporting, and administrative processes

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or construction administration experience
Experience in the construction industry strongly preferred
Strong understanding of AP, AR, Canadian payroll, invoicing, reconciliations, and job costing
Familiarity with construction accounting processes including progress billing, holdbacks, and subcontractor coordination preferred
Experience using QuickBooks Online (QBO) required
Experience with Procore or construction management software considered a strong asset
Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong initiative, organizational skills and excellent attention to detail are a must have
Professional communication and interpersonal skills
High level of discretion and confidentiality
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel
Bookkeeping, accounting, or related education at a diploma level or higher considered a strong asset
