Job Overview
We are seeking a Stone Slinger Operator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes. The Stone Slinger Operator works as a team with the assigned crew and can motivate and coordinate a crew to achieve project goals and timelines.
Duties
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle to ensure safety and compliance
- Perform daily routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
- Clean, lubricate and refill equipment, as necessary
- Operate the slinger and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Load, unload and transport construction materials
- Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants
- Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites
- Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction
- Ensure work is performed safely in compliance with all regulations associated to the work and ensures the highest quality standards while maintain strong production.
- Operate truck in a safe and courteous manner, obeying all roadway rules.
- Promote, execute and adhere to all safety policies and regulations.
- Interact with various team members including customers
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner with honesty and integrity.
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
- Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
- Reliable and committed to getting the job done safely – pride in the finished job
- Familiar with the Niagara to Hamilton area(s) and routes of travel
- Mechanical knowledge an asset
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent with experience in related construction activities.
- A valid driver’s license and clean/insurable driver’s abstract are required.
- Valid DZ driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract. (AZ preferred)
- Experience operating stone slinger truck is an asset but willing to train
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently
- Able to work safety and collaboratively with team members and management in the field in a physically demanding and fast paced work environment
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Capable of performing routine maintenance on equipment such as lubricating, cleaning, etc.
- Ability to lift 50lbs or more
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, confined space and heights and process the required PPE and CSA approved work shoes
- First Aid considered an asset
- Excellent motivational and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work in a manner that maintains and meets deadlines.
- Comfortable operating on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of surroundings while working with flaggers/traffic control, pipe layers working in the excavation and those working in a top capacity.
