Pay Rate Disclosure:
- Gardens of Peterborough: $17.60 per hour
- Long-Term Care Homes: $21.51 – $21.71 per hour
Starting rate, wage progression, and premiums are determined by the applicable collective agreement.

Position Summary
As a Dietary Aide, you will support the delivery of a high-quality dining experience by assisting with meal service, food preparation, and maintaining clean and safe dining and kitchen environments.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you will ensure meals are served efficiently, safely, and in accordance with residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Service
- Take meal orders and serve food and beverages in a professional, courteous manner
- Deliver and pick up meal trays and snack carts
- Ensure meals meet individual dietary requirements and preferences
- Support special events, themed meals, and functions
Food Preparation & Service
- Assist with preparation of meals, snacks, and beverages
- Reheat and portion food according to established standards
- Maintain proper food temperatures and safe food handling practices
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize dining rooms, kitchens, equipment, and dishware
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow Public Health, MLTC, and company sanitation standards
- Report equipment issues and supply needs
Communication & Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with dietary, care, and interdisciplinary teams
- Support onboarding and training of new staff
- Communicate resident concerns or changes in condition to nursing staff
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow WHMIS, infection prevention and control (IPAC), and workplace safety standards
- Adhere to all Public Health, RHA/MLTC, and company policies
- Participate in safety programs, including fire and occupational health & safety
Qualifications
- Valid Safe Food Handler certification required
- WHMIS certification required
- Smart Serve certification (for retirement location) required
- Food Service Worker certificate or equivalent experience is an asset
- Previous experience in food service, healthcare, hospitality, or institutional settings preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Physically capable of performing required duties
- Reliable, organized, and available to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Professional appearance and commitment to cleanliness and service standards
