Full job description

Vernon Native Housing Society is seeking a bookkeeper – 35 hours per week.

The bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing the society’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, and month and year end financial entries and reconciliations. Experience with payroll an asset.

Key Functions:

Receive, code and process supplier invoices & statements
Pay outstanding invoices by due date, taking advance of any discounts offered
Prepare and file accompanying cheque requisitions, ensuring authorized approvals are in place
Calculate GST amounts recoverable and submit quarterly claims to CRA along with Receiver General submitting
Complete bank reconciliations
Prepare and post month end entries
Assist with closing year end: year end closing entries and reconciliations

Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Sage 50 Premium, Excel & Word programs
Must have 3 minimum level in a recognized accounting program
At least five years’ experience in an accounting environment
Good communications skills – both verbal and written
Ability to work independently with initiative and self-direction

Additional:

Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid BC Driver’s License
Must be willing to undergo a criminal record check
Preference will be given to a qualified Aboriginal person

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 per week

SAGE: 2 years (preferred)
Bookkeeping: 5 years (preferred)
