Location: WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital, KW Campus)

Position Summary:

Waterloo Regional Health Network is seeking applications for a Personal Support Worker (PSW)/Clinical Assistant (CA) who is committed to providing exceptional patient care and support across the organization as a member in ENDO. The PSW/CA provides flexible, patient-centred support to various clinical areas and units based on operational, staffing, and patient care needs, contributing to WRHN’s mission of Advancing Exceptional Care.

PSWs/CAs work collaboratively with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to support patients with activities of daily living and other care needs within their scope of practice. As float pool staff, PSWs/CAs may be assigned to different units, programs, or roles throughout the organization and may move between areas during a shift based on organizational and patient care needs.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, providing 1:1 or close observation to support patient safety, assisting with basic personal care and activities of daily living, assisting with mobility and transfers, transporting patients by wheelchair or stretcher, escorting patients to appointments, diagnostic tests, or other areas, maintaining a clean and tidy patient environment, making beds, obtaining and documenting height and weight, and documenting care provided in accordance with organizational standards.

PSWs/CAs may also be assigned to other duties within their scope of practice and as directed by the nursing or interdisciplinary team. The PSW/CA Float Pool plays an important role in supporting staffing needs across the organization and ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate, and timely care.

PSWs/CAs contribute to a Just Culture by providing safe, compassionate, and equitable patient care while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and positive workplace and team environment across the organization.

Position Requirements:

Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program.
CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level and Standard First Aid
Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needed
Minimum of two years of related experience in a health care setting preferred
Experience with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, dementia, mental health and complex behavioral needs is preferred.
Non-violent Crisis Intervention or Code White training required; training will be provided
Gentle Persuasive Approach training required; training will be provided
Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
Knowledgeable regarding the scope of practice for various job categories
Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and general public
Basic computer skills
Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
Capable of working independently and able to take direction
Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
