Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Miscellaneous Metals Fitter to join our fabrication team. This position focuses on the fabrication and assembly of custom metal products often referred to as “miscellaneous metals.”
This includes items such as handrails, guardrails, ladders, sump frames and pits, platforms, stairs, frames, and other one-off or architectural steel assemblies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fitting, assembling, and preparing these components for welding in accordance with detailed shop drawings and company quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from fabrication drawings, blueprints, and sketches
- Fit and assemble steel components including handrails, ladders, frames, and custom assemblies
- Perform accurate layout, measurement, and alignment using appropriate tools
- Torch cut, grind, and prep materials as required
- Ensure all work meets Champion Ironworks’ dimensional and quality standards
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and shop foremen to meet production timelines
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a fitter in a steel fabrication environment
- Strong understanding of miscellaneous and structural steel drawings
- Proficient with fitting tools, grinders, and oxy-acetylene torches
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- CWB certification (asset, not required)
- Commitment to safety, accuracy, and quality workmanship
