Express Employment Professionals is recruiting on behalf of a well established company in the construction and industrial services sector.
Our client is seeking a CPA designated accounting professional to join the organization as a Junior Controller or Controller. This is a hands on leadership position with the opportunity to work directly with the President and become a trusted member of the senior leadership team.
The successful candidate will oversee accounting and financial reporting for a group of related companies, supervise an experienced accounting and administration team, and provide financial guidance that supports business growth, risk management, and operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a group of related companies
- Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements
- Lead month end and year end closing processes
- Coordinate year-end reporting and tax preparation with external accountants
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and working capital
- Develop management dashboards, financial reports, and key performance indicators
- Review financial performance and provide recommendations to the President
- Review and monitor the company business plan with the President
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial processes
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Supervise, mentor, and support an accounting and administration team of 3 to 4 employees
- Manage relationships with banks, external accountants, lawyers, insurance providers, government agencies, and other professional advisors
- Support corporate administration, risk management, tax planning, and shareholder reporting
- Assist with strategic planning, business growth, ownership planning, and future exit strategy discussions
- Evaluate accounting systems, ERP platforms, and technology improvements
- Use artificial intelligence tools and other technologies to improve efficiency and reporting
Qualifications
- Canadian CPA designation is required
- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Experience as an Assistant Controller, Controller, Senior Accountant, or in a comparable senior accounting role
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience involving multiple companies or legal entities
- Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience preparing financial statements and completing month end and year end close
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Experience working directly with external accountants, banks, lawyers, insurance providers, and auditors
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting and administration employees
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working with ERP systems
- Experience using QuickBooks Pro, including Contractor and Job Costing, is strongly preferred
- Experience with accounting system conversions, implementations, or process improvements is an asset
- Construction, drilling, engineering, industrial services, or project-based accounting experience is considered an asset
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English is required
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must be able to work onsite in Abbotsford, British Columbia

Compensation and Benefits
