Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nigiri, sashimi, maki and other Japanese dishes, ensuring high standards of food quality, presentation, and safety. This role requires a deep understanding of food handling, preparation, and serving techniques within a fast-paced restaurant environment. The Sushi Chef will play a vital role in delivering an exceptional dining experience to our guests through expert meal preparation and excellent food service.

Duties

Prepare and serve a variety of sushi, sashimi and Japanese dishes with precision and artistry
Handle all aspects of food preparation, including preping fish, slicing, rolling, and assembling nigiri, sashimi, and maki components
Ensure all food is prepared according to safety standards and proper food handling procedures
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area in compliance with health regulations
Assist in menu development and suggest new sushi creations to enhance customer offerings
Serve dishes to guests in a professional and courteous manner, providing excellent food service
Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and communicate needs for restocking
Follow all food safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure quality control

Requirements

Proven experience as a Sushi Chef, Japanese sushi restaurant experience is required
Strong skills in food preparation, cooking, and meal presentation specific to nigiri, sashimi, maki and Japanese cuisine
Knowledge of food handling, safety standards, and sanitation practices in a kitchen environment
Excellent serving skills with a focus on customer satisfaction
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail
Kitchen experience with proficiency in using various culinary tools and equipment
Passion for Japanese cuisine and continuous learning about new sushi techniques and trends
Food safety certification or willingness to obtain certification prior to employment is preferred
