Sous Chef – Monki Bistro (Crowfoot Crescent Calgary Alberta, Full Time)

Join Monki Bistro, a vibrant brunch destination known for its creative menu and warm, customer-focused atmosphere. As our Sous Chef, you’ll play a key role in leading line operations, ensuring every dish delights our guests while supporting a collaborative and passionate kitchen team. This position is essential to maintaining our reputation as a proven restaurant where innovation and teamwork thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Lead daily kitchen operations during brunch service, ensuring quality and consistency
Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop and execute creative menu items
Manage and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and efficient work environment
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness
Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies to minimize waste
Support smooth communication between front-of-house and kitchen teams
Assist in training new team members and promoting professional growth
Troubleshoot operational challenges quickly to maintain service flow

Must-Have Qualifications

Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards
Leadership and team management skills
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak brunch hours
Passion for creative, customer-oriented cuisine
Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Mandatory working on weekends and holidays

Nice-to-Have / Bonus Skills

Culinary certification or formal training
Experience with inventory management software
Knowledge of dietary restrictions and allergen handling
Food Safe certified
Previous experience in a brunch-focused restaurant

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6 to 12 months, you will have streamlined kitchen operations during peak hours, contributed to menu innovation, and built a motivated, cohesive team. Your leadership will enhance guest satisfaction and support Monki Bistro’s continued growth as a beloved brunch spot in Calgary.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range — Competitive and commensurate with experience (CAD). Benefits include paid time off, health coverage, staff meals, and opportunities for professional development.

Work Location & Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site position based at Monki Bistro on Crowfoot Crescent in Calgary, Alberta. Weekend and holiday shifts are required to support our busy brunch service.

Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
