Reporting to the Supervisor, Parking Patrol & Investigations, the Parking Patrol & Investigations Officer is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the public peace through enforcement of specific municipal bylaws with a focus on public safety, traffic flow, and community standards. In this role, you will respond to and resolve bylaw complaints while actively patrolling the communities. Primary duties include:

Respond to and attend to complaints and queries across the city for investigation.
Enforce municipal bylaws by issuing violation tickets, authorizing the towing and seizure of vehicles, or providing education and compliance in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
Support City services, supplement enforcement actions between agencies, and offer advice when required.
Patrol and be present in communities throughout the city.
Collect qualitative and quantitative evidence (photographic images, measurements, vehicle information, situation details) to support enforcement practices and decisions.
Operate a variety of vehicles (cars, SUVs, and trucks), including those equipped with a License Plate Recognition system.
Receive telephone calls from the public regarding parking concerns and queries, provide accurate and appropriate information as necessary, and input information into internal software systems.
Operate a Computer Aided Dispatch System in support of officers in the field.
Monitor officer safety alarms and systems.
Attend and testify at Provincial Court.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint).
Experience or training in conflict resolution would be considered an asset.
Ability to receive and maintain a Municipal Bylaw appointment.
Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
Success in this position requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to maintain composure while faced with stressful escalated public interactions.
Excellent attention to detail, initiative and the ability to work independently is required for success in this position.

Working Conditions: This position requires driving and walking for long periods of time in a variety of conditions, including inclement weather and in-close proximity to traffic and other hazards.

Pre-employment Requirements

A security clearance and vulnerable sector search (VSS) will be conducted.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
