Your Opportunity:

The Tuberculosis (TB) Public Health Nurse (PHN) works within Public Health, CDC & Screening of Primary Care Alberta and reports to the Manager of the Edmonton TB Clinic. Using the nursing process, you deliver services to individuals, groups, and communities including screening, case management of active disease and latent infection, outbreak investigation and contact tracing, surveillance, and education. The PHN acts as a resource to healthcare providers within the Edmonton Zone (i.e., Public Health Centres, WHS, Infection Prevention & Control, physicians, community agencies, and the public). The Registered Nurse - Public Health Nurse will collaborate with community agencies and external health and social service providers to further coordinate client care for individuals and families that meet their broad health needs. This position requires the following: The ability to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; perform awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. The ability to document in an electronic medical record continuously throughout the shift. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups, and/or organizations (i.e., ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, people with disabilities, and people across all age groups, etc.) The ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skills.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This position requires the following: Ability to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment with clients of all ages. Compliance with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required. Duties must be completed with a high level of independence but also interdependent within a larger team environment. Strong interpersonal skills; experience in interdisciplinary teamwork; strong written and oral communication skills. Recent experience (within the past two years) using computer technology and applications including website navigation, office or business applications, health database use (Netcare, Connect Care, etc.), and MS Office. Recent experience (within the past two years) working in the Tuberculosis Services program required. Documentation is to be done at point of care as per CRNA guidelines with 100% accuracy. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Other skills and experience relevant to Public Health may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years current experience in Public Health or Communicable Disease Control. Demonstrated recent knowledge of Tuberculosis Disease Management (within the last 1 – 2 years). Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing BScN) strongly preferred. CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing. Knowledge, understanding & demonstrated use of the social determinants of health & health promotion strategies.
