Bakery Manager

Care Bakery is a fast-growing industrial bakery producing excellent gluten free products for restaurant and retail sales across Canada. We love great products, great client service and great production skills that keep us in the forefront of national and international gluten free products. Care Bakery is always producing great products for those who require special diets and those who just want extraordinary breads.

We require a Bakery Manager who can progress to Operations Manager. With the support of senior leaders, this person will be able to immediately begin engaging and directing staff activities in planning, batch prep, proofing, baking and facility management.

Your knowledge of processes and food safety programs will be very useful.

Your skills with Microsoft Office will help you organise and manage daily operations

The position will involve approx. 35% production, 65% admin. Care Bakery operates 10-hour shifts. This position will progress to 8-hour day, approx. 40 hours per week.

Position Requirements

Completion of technical training/certification as a baker.
Deep technical knowledge of yeast breads – able to foresee and trouble shoot production issues related to ingredients and processes
Experience with industrial batch processing using rack ovens and related equipment.
Ability to ensure smooth and continuous facility operation based on appropriate planned and unplanned maintenance.
Experience managing from 10 to 30 staff
Detail-oriented and well organized.
Desire to work with a team to provide exceptional results
A working knowledge of certified food safety systems

Production Activities

Build a great work environment that develops exceptional team performance, staff development and quality of work life
Able to operate equipment and perform all core production activities in Scaling, Depositing, Proofing, Baking, Cooling, Packaging
Ensure quality and consistency of products
Manage inventories and orders to ensure continuous cost-effective production
Work with Executive Baker to develop new products

Leadership Activities

Participate with senior leadership to plan and develop bakery processes
Work with senior leaders to hire, train and supervise bakery personnel
Develop schedules designed to ensure continuous flow, maximize machinery utilization and support Marketing and Logistics product requirements
Ensure that facility continuously meets all regulatory, HACCP and SQF requirements for safety and cleanliness
Ensure that production timing and effectiveness is recorded and managed
Communicate company policies and ensure compliance with food safety and personnel safety policies
Support Care Bakery’s maintenance of HACCP and SQF certification
Have SQF food safety certification

Accountabilities

Maintain an engaged enthusiastic work force
Achieve financial and production targets related to cost of goods sold such as: waste, equipment usage, labour utilization, equipment up time
Maintain a food safe, employee safe and a regulatory and certification compliant facility
Communicate to senior leadership on a scheduled basis the performance and requirements of the production facility

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 25 kg
Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive motions (bending, pushing/pulling)
Able to work with noise, heat and dust
