HDD DRILLER

PTL Group is a Calgary-based utility construction contractor specializing in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and hydrovac excavation for underground utility infrastructure. We are looking for an experienced HDD Driller to join our growing team.

What You'll Do
- Operate directional drills to complete bore paths and install underground conduit and cable
- Work closely with the locator to plan bore paths and identify potential conflicts before drilling
- Read and interpret utility locates and construction drawings
- Maintain clear communication with the locator throughout each drill shot
- Coordinate with crews and hydrovac operators to safely complete utility exposures and daylighting
- Lead by example and work alongside the crew to maintain safe and efficient production
- Complete required daily inspections, preventative maintenance and safety documentation
- Set up and maintain safe work sites, including traffic and pedestrian control
- Follow company safety policies and Ground Disturbance procedures
What You Bring
- Previous hands-on HDD drilling experience required
- 2+ years of Calgary-area drilling experience preferred
- Shallow utility experience in telecommunications, power and/or gas
- Experience reading utility locates, construction drawings and bore plans
- Strong knowledge of Ground Disturbance and underground utility safety
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
- Safety-conscious, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a field crew
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and clean driver's abstract
- Class 1 License is preferred
- Able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
Required Certifications
Current CSTS 2020 required.
Applicants must also be willing to complete required company safety training, including First Aid, Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, Confined Space and H2S Alive, as applicable.
Schedule & Compensation
$30.00–$38.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Full-time, permanent position. Day, night, overtime, on-call and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.
Travel to project sites throughout Alberta & BC may also be required.
