Kiknu, meaning “our home” in Mi’kmaq, is a long-term care home on a First Nation community. A residents-first approach to care and service ensures Kiknu is supporting independence, promoting dignity and placing value on the choices for how elders want to live their lives.
Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values and traditions.
We are searching for a Cook to join our Kiknu Long Term Care team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity
- Plans and prepares meals according to established standards, procedures, recipes and menus, including preparing special meals to meet appropriate therapeutic menu modifications according to established guidelines
- Assists with preparation of food for special functions (e.g. catering, theme dinners) to ensure service meets established standards
- Reports any recipe shortages, discrepancies or quality issues to the Executive Chef or supervisor in a timely manner
- Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily; maintains cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, kettles, mixers or others according to legislative and organizational standards
- Follows disposal procedures according to established waste management guidelines for organics, paper, plastics, cans/bottles, non-recyclable material, etc

About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
- You have a Culinary Arts Diploma
- You possess a valid Food Handler’s certificate.
- You have experience in large quantity food preparation.
- You can read & follow detailed recipes/instructions as required
- Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
