POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Business Partner plays a key role in supporting leaders and employees across Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) by aligning people strategies with operational priorities while honouring Tahltan culture and values. Guided by the principle “Build Trust, Build Futures,” this role helps balance business imperatives with a people-centered approach grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, respect for tradition, and contemporary HR practices.
As TNDC continues to grow as a leading Indigenous-owned business operating in the resource-rich Golden Triangle of northwest British Columbia, the HR Business Partner will support the development of a strong, inclusive workforce that creates meaningful opportunities for Tahltan citizens and employees across the organization.
Working closely with leaders, the HR Business Partner will help foster a workplace culture built on trust, respect, and accountability—integrating Western HR practices with Tahltan values to support both organizational success and community prosperity. Responsibilities:
· Provide day-to-day HR guidance and coaching to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, employee relations, and workplace best practices.
· Partner with operational leaders to align people strategies with business priorities, supporting workforce effectiveness and organizational growth.
· Partner with leaders to foster a workplace culture grounded in trust, respect, accountability, and inclusion, supporting TNDC’s commitment to Build Trust, Build Futures.
· Support recruitment and workforce planning activities including drafting and updating job descriptions, preparing job postings, screening resumes, coordinating and facilitating interviews, and conducting reference checks.
· Contribute to workforce planning initiatives by working with leaders to identify current and future staffing needs, supporting sustainable growth and employment opportunities.
· Coordinate and support the onboarding process by preparing offer letters, managing hiring documentation, facilitating new hire orientations, and ensuring a positive employee onboarding experience.
· Assist in the implementation and continuous improvement of HR programs, policies, and initiatives that align with TNDC’s strategic goals and support organizational growth.
· Support leadership development by coaching managers on performance management, employee engagement, and effective team leadership practices.
· Support employee relations matters by providing guidance, facilitating resolution of workplace concerns, and promoting respectful workplace practices.
· Promote inclusive employment practices and support initiatives that create meaningful employment and development opportunities for Tahltan citizens and local communities.
· Participate in the administration of employee benefits programs and support employees with benefits-related inquiries.
· Ensure HR practices remain compliant with applicable provincial and federal employment legislation, and assist in updating policies and procedures as needed.
· Contribute to the development and delivery of HR communications and initiatives that support employee engagement and organizational culture.
· Support HR reporting, documentation, and record-keeping to ensure accurate and effective HR operations.
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required to support the HR team and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, ideally in a generalist or HR Business Partner capacity supporting operational teams.
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal employment legislation, HR policies, and best practices.
- Experience supporting recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR program implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to provide sound HR guidance in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
- Knowledge of, or experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or cultural values is considered an asset.
- An understanding of the social, cultural, and economic priorities of the Tahltan Nation is considered an asset.
- A CPHR designation, or progress toward obtaining one, is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Required approximately 50% travel to support our teams and operations.
- Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

- Valid class 5 Drivers’ License.
Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members, especially local Tahltan workers, by sharing technical skills, safety practices, and industry knowledge in a respectful and culturally aware manner. Uphold Tahltan values and principles by fostering a work environment built on respect, teamwork, and mutual learning. Support the growth of the Tahltan workforce by helping build capacity, promoting safe and effective work practices, and ensuring that knowledge is passed on to strengthen both the team and the broader Tahltan community for the benefit of current and future generation.
