Legal Administrative Assistant
1-Year Contract - Temporary

The Job The incumbent will report to the Senior Legal Counsel in the Legal department. The purpose of this position is to provide clerical, and administrative services to the Legal unit of the Society, in accordance with Society policies and procedures, Ministry standards, Family Law Rules and relevant legislation. Primary duties include; collect, prepare and file all legal documentation required for adoption placement, registration and finalization and to ensure all required documentation is submitted to the appropriate source and captured in the Child Protection Information Network (CPIN) in accordance with provincial file attachment management procedures. Preparation, serving and filing of documents for Protection, Status Review and Openness applications and the subsequent appearances that go with these Applications. Preparation of documents and witnesses for trials and assisting counsel as needed with trials. This is a Bargaining Unit position with CUPE Local 5319.

Qualifications

Office Administration Diploma (Legal Program preferred) or equivalent from an accredited business program or Community College.
Thorough knowledge of service-related software and database systems.
Solid understanding of organizational infrastructure and processes.
Broad knowledge of child welfare systems.
Solid understanding of civil litigation, court procedures and legal documentation.
Excellent time management skills and ability to work effectively under the pressure of tight timelines, competing priorities and emergent issues.
Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal and external resources.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of anti-oppression values and principles and an appreciation and ability to work in a diverse environment.
Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle is required.
Bilingualism (English/French) is a highly desired asset.

Note: Our current Collective Agreement has provisions for the following: Where an applicant from an Ontario Child Welfare Organization is successful in a job competition, service-based entitlements for wages and vacation shall be based on the length of his/ her most recent period of continuous service. The foregoing does not apply to seniority-based entitlements.

Compensation The salary range is $61,659 to $76,076 commensurate with experience.
