Job Description:

Specialized Seniors Care is an acute medicine unit. This 34 bed unit cares for patients over 65 years of age with presence of geriatric syndrome and acute illness. Our aim is to enhance or maintain the health status and quality of life of older adults who have complex medical issues. The team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, patient care assistants, behavioural support therapist, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, elder life specialist, geriatrician, geriatric phycologist, a discharge planner, social worker, a respiratory therapist, a speech language pathologist, unit clerks, chaplain and volunteers. Each member has a specific role to play to ensure seamless integration of care and together, they strive to provide exceptional care to each patient and family. As the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) you are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the organizational philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the College of Nurses (CNO), and all relevant legislation.

As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:

Registered Practical Nursing Diploma or equivalent education to practice at full scope

Completion of recognized Medication Administration Course

Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Current BCLS • Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession

Membership in professional association specific to nursing service area

Functions independently within scope of practice

Computer literacy in current software applications

Excellent organizational skills

Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others

Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
