St. Francis Memorial Hospital is a 20 bed, fully accredited facility, offering medical, and complex continuing care. Special inpatient services include palliative care, diabetes clinic, telemedicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation. A two bed Hospice is directly down the hall from our inpatient unit. The hospital has an extensive ambulatory care program with over 10,000 emergency visits per year. A six-station satellite hemodialysis unit is located at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay.

Come join us! As a result of internal growth at SFMH, we are hiring a Permanent Full-Time Groundskeeper/Helper in our Maintenance Department.
Pay Grid: $25.17 - $26.23/hour
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Department Manager and Maintenance Specialist, assists with the maintenance and repair of equipment and the physical plant. Transports supplies, equipment and building waste within the Hospital and maintains the hospital grounds including snow removal etc. Duties may include occasional Housekeeping tasks, as well as building and grounds security. Security functions include patrolling; response to incidents; enforcement of property standards; maintain and enforce control procedures; de-escalation of emergency/crisis situations; assist emergency and law enforcement; investigation of incidents; maintaining the peace, safety and security of the hospital. Candidate will receive training on security function.
Qualifications:
- Three years experience or more in operating, repairing and cleaning of mechanical equipment such as lawn tractor, snow blower etc.
- Three years experience or more in building maintenance and renovation such as minor wall carpentry, plaster and wall or floor tile repairs, painting, and basic carpentry
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, heating, mechanical and electrical systems to monitor and work under the direction of the Manager
- Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping such as lawn, flowers and shrubbery care an asset
- Grade 12 or related experience
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
- Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training will be required, or willingness to be trained.
- Demonstrated initiative and reliability to identify and assess building or system related problems
- Ability to organize work, meet time expectations and work independent of direct supervision
- Ability to lift greater than 25kg, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, walking, climbing and standing for periods
