Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Human and Justice Studies, the faculty member facilitates learning in the Mental Health and Addictions programs by applying evidence-based teaching practices, diverse instructional strategies, and effective assessment methods to support student success and program excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality instruction using evidence-based teaching practices and principles of adult education.
Develop and refine course syllabi and instructional materials in alignment with approved course outlines, contributing to a consistent and sustainable repository of teaching resources for future faculty.
Ensure course content remains current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the discipline and broader program areas.
Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects and accommodates diverse cultural backgrounds, educational experiences, and learning styles.
Design and implement clear learning outcomes and effective instructional strategies that align with program goals and support student success.
Communicate learning outcomes, instructional approaches, and assessment methods to students in a transparent and timely manner.
Assess student achievement of learning outcomes using appropriate evaluation methods, and provide individualized support through tutoring, academic guidance, and constructive feedback.
Develop and integrate multimedia resources, alternative delivery methods, and educational technologies to enhance the learning experience.
Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to maintain a relevant, engaging, and professionally aligned learning environment.
Utilize the learning management system to support instruction, facilitate communication, and enhance student learning.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or a Bachelor’s degree and Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Canadian Addiction Counsellor Certification Federation, or College of Registered Psychotherapists or related regulatory body.
Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant professional experience providing counselling, therapy, case management, crisis intervention, assessment, documentation and treatment planning in the mental health and addictions field.
Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering excellence in others.
Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development within the field.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Advanced computer literacy and a demonstrated willingness to learn and utilize educational technologies (e.g., Canvas) in alignment with departmental requirements.
Strong problem-solving abilities, including effective conflict and stress-management skills.
Experience in curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation is an asset.
Experience facilitating learning at the post-secondary or adult-education level, demonstrating a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, is a strong asset.
Ability to teach in person, remote, or hybrid delivery formats.
